Open Windows Delivery Optimization, benefiting others and oneself!

Preface#

The download speed of Windows updates is really slow (although much faster than downloading from the official website).

When Windows 10 was released, Delivery Optimization appeared alongside it.

This should be something that M$ has done to further improve the download speed of updates.

Steps#

Enable Delivery Optimization#

As usual, let's open our beloved "Settings" and then open "Windows Update";

Settings

Click on "Advanced options", and then click on "Delivery Optimization";

Advanced options

If you are using Windows 10, then you should open "Settings" -> "Update & Security" -> "Delivery Optimization".

Then we can see the settings interface for Delivery Optimization, as shown in the image below:

Delivery Optimization

Turn on "Allow downloads from other PCs" and change the download source below to "Internet and devices on my local network".

Delivery Optimization settings

What? You think there's a second step? No, you're thinking too much! Yes, configuring Delivery Optimization is that simple.

Notes#

I guess the principle of Delivery Optimization is similar to things like P2P.

Updates downloaded on other people's computers will be directly downloaded by Delivery Optimization, and these updates will also be retained on the computer, but they won't take up much space.

However, because not many people use it, the effect of Delivery Optimization is not very obvious. Therefore, we need many people to enable Delivery Optimization to see the effect.

Delivery Optimization also uses some upload bandwidth to download updates for other computers, but you can limit this bandwidth in the settings according to your own situation.

There is an activity monitor for Delivery Optimization in the settings, which can be used to see where the updates downloaded by Delivery Optimization come from, the percentage, size; where the uploaded updates go, percentage, size.

Activity Monitor

That's all.

Successfully watered down an article 🤣 (not really)
